BIOGRAPHY
Baritone Edward Kim is an International Opera singer and Samling Artist from South Korea. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London where he was supported by the Drake Calleja Trust and Sheila Saam Memorial Trust. Whilst at the RCM, Edward studied with Janis Kelly and Caroline Dowdle. He then went on to the David Seligman Opera School of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he was generously supported by the Leverhulme Trust, The Rajewari Scholarship and Sybil Tutton Opera Award. He is also the first Sir Geraint Evans Centenary Scholar. Edward studied with John Fisher, Donald Maxwell, Adrian Thompson, Stephen Wood and James Southall in RWCMD.
Edward has performed a variety of operatic roles throughout his career. Notable performances include singing Silvio (Pagliacci) for Singapore Lyric Opera, Vater (Hänsel und Gretel) for Opera Holland Park, Dandini (La Cenerentola) for Welsh National Opera Gala under the baton of Maestro Carlo Rizzi, Forester (Příhody lišky Bystroušky) for Hampstead Garden Opera, Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus) and Il Conte (Le nozze di Figaro) for RWCMD.
In recitals, Edward has sung for Oxford International Song Festival, Opera Holland Park’s Opera in Song and Opera on the steps, and participated in the 2021 Verbier Festival in Switzerland as part of the Atélier Lyrique.
Edward has won the Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize, Special Prize for the 1st Antonina Campi Competition, 2018 Osaka International Music Competition, 2018 Concert Artist Competition in New York, Eileen Price Prize for Lieder and Michael Jones Contemporary Opera Prize in RWCMD.
